Premier riverside dinning

We’re proud to be part of this little slice of history in Sandwich. Our restaurant has been a part of the village for years - once known as Fisherman’s Wharf, then a café, and now a restaurant and brasserie.

Run by Shane Hughes, and since taking over in 2020, we’ve poured everything learned from Michelin-level kitchens into creating something special. Great food, a well-stocked bar, and river views—it’s all here.

Our story

Who are we?

Our menus are carefully put together, balancing classic techniques with bold flavours, and our drinks selection is just as considered, whether you're after a perfectly paired wine or something a little stronger.

From long, leisurely meals to relaxed drinks by the river, we’ve created a space that we feel is welcoming, stylish, and just the right amount of indulgent. Good food, good company, and no pretentiousness—just how dining should be.

This historical photograph takes you back to early 20th-century Sandwich, with The Barbican and toll bridge buzzing with life - though perhaps at a more leisurely pace than today.

You can see a group of people, dressed in their Sunday best. Behind them, characterful old buildings, including a weaver’s cottage, add to the rich architectural heritage that still gives The Toll Bridge its charm. Some things change, but good views and a good gathering spot? Those never go out of style.

Throwing you back to the 2000s, The Toll Bridge was at this time known as modest little spot called Fisherman’s Wharf.

Back then, it was a cosy café and restaurant where locals gathered for a bite to eat, a chat, and a view of the river. A lot has changed since then, but the love for good food in a great setting? That’s something we’ve kept firmly on the menu.
